INCLINE VILLAGE, NEW. - Prior infection with Chlamydia pneumoniae may predispose to preeclampsia, Dr. R. Phillips Heine said at the annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Heine's microimmunofluorescence study of serum samples obtained at the time of delivery from 37 preeclamptic women and an equal number of normal controls demonstrated that the maternal age-adjusted risk of seropositivity for IgG antibody to C. pueumonide was increased 3.3-fold in the women who had preeclampsia.
