Oct. 23--Water has always been an issue in the fight over establishing the Great Sand Dunes National Park and that became even clearer this week as Aurora officials apparently convinced Rep. Bob Schaffer, R-Colo., to drop his support for the Sand Dunes legislation that is pending in the House of Representatives.
Aurora Mayor Paul Tauer acknowledged Friday that he has written Schaffer, whose 4th District includes a slice of Aurora, to drop his support for the Sand Dunes legislation that is being pushed by Rep. Scott McInnis during the last days of this Congress.
