The VMPD is not in reality a new division of the Photographic Society of America. It began many years ago as the Motion Picture Division and was for decades a very active section of the PSA. At first, 16mm movies were replaced by 8mm films because of the fact that less expense was involved and the quality of 8mm was good enough for the amateur motion picture maker -- especially when sound 8mm became a reality. Other organizations devoted to film making, such as The American Motion Picture Society (AMPC) and the Society of Amateur Cinematographers (SAVAC - the V for Videomakers was later added) supplanted the MPD of PSA and as a result the division was essentially ...
