I avoid new words until they've been passed around, handled, worn smooth by the common tongue. That goes for them-there modern styles of grammar, too, with their godless mixing of tenses, short skirts and all-night conjugatin' parties - Sorry. I'm still annoyed by the Kmart ad that tells us "How to Halloween." We discussed this last week, prompting Steven Brown to write with a sensible point:
- I say that if you can summer in Schenectady or winter in Winter Haven, you can Thanksgiving or Halloween somewhere also. Sure, Halloween isn't a verb, but you can verbize just about anything.
