Prepaid phone cards, introduced with great fanfare as an up-and-coming, add-on product when they were introduced several years ago, have failed to make a dent in the automatic merchandising industry. That's the conclusion drawn from an operator survey conducted by Automatic Merchandiser this past summer.
Among the 210 operators who responded to the written survey, less than 5 percent indicated they currently vend prepaid phone cards. The majority further indicated they have no plan to do so in the future.
