TOMATOES -- Florida's Tomato industry is considering filing an antidumping case with the International Trade Commission against the Canadian Tomato industry, reported The Tampa Tribune. Hydroponic Tomatoes from Canada are flooding into the U.S., bolstering supply and causing prices to drop. Hydroponic Tomatoes are grown without soil in greenhouses. Nutrients are fed directly to the plant. Canadian Tomato exports to the U.S. tallied $121 million in 1999, a 660% increase from five years ago, says the University of Florida. Canada represents a small but growing chunk of the U.S. fresh Tomato market, which is valued at more than $1 billion.
