Oct. 27--Miami International Airport bills itself as the preeminent gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, while Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has become a prime entry point for domestic passengers, attracting an assortment of low-fare carriers.
Now, growth at the airports is also moving in dramatically opposite directions.
This summer, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood logged monthly double-digit percentage increases in passenger counts -- 14.5 percent in July, 13.7 percent in August, and 24.9 percent in September -- while Miami's figures fell 3.7 percent in July and 4.5 percent in August.
