Sublingual immunotherapy is a safe and effective method for the long-term treatment of pediatric asthma patients, despite having little apparent effect on immunologic variables, researchers report in the journal Allergy.
"Immunotherapy through local routes is thought to be a valuable therapeutic option for respiratory allergy," wrote G.B. Pajno and colleagues at L'Universite di Messina in Italy. "We investigated the clinical efficacy and immunologic effects of sublingual immunotherapy...in asthmatic children with mite-induced respiratory allergy."
