The human endocrine system consists of a set of glands and hormones that help guide the development, growth, reproduction and behaviour of human beings. They also regulate blood pressure, blood glucose levels, the brain and the nervous system. A wide variety of chemicals are suspected of interfering with the endocrine system and are known as endocrine disruptors.In Communication (COM(99)706), the Commission proposes to draw up a priority list of substances for further evaluation of their role in endocrine disruption.
