A decrease in Cuba's cattle population along with a government policy decision to supply the Cuban population with calories as cheaply as possible is raising the question of, "Where's the beef in Cuba?"
If you were living in Cuba, you might ask, Where's the beef? Government-operated ration stores do not carry beef. Mercados Agropecuarios (agricultural markets), authorized by the government, do not sell beef. Dollar stores (government-run stores dealing only in dollars) do not always display beef, and paladares (small, in-home restaurants authorized by the government) cannot legally offer beef on the menu.
