Several practical issues surround Gurnee's possible push to enact a 25 mph speed limit on all residential streets.
Mayor Richard Welton and village trustees, meeting in an informal committee session Monday, agreed that safety would not be compromised by cost and intend to seek the 25 mph limit once they gather more specifics.
Still, officials said the potential costs and how Gurnee would go about reducing the state-mandated residential limit from 30 mph to 25 mph must be determined before any formal decision is made.
"There is no question in my mind we need to do this," Trustee Ray Damijonaitis said. "It's just a question of how."
