Running a jail is tough. Some justice experts say it is one of the toughest jobs in corrections for many reasons. One reason is the volume of intake and releases jails have every day of the year. With so many people coming and going, it is extremely difficult to properly control the offender population. Some people are in jail for only several hours or days and then make bond or are released through judicial action.
