It wasn't good to be Badfinger.
A British foursome dubbed "the next Beatles" in its late '60s-early '70s heyday, Badfinger had talent and tremendous good luck.
What the star-crossed band really needed was a good lawyer.
Badfinger's story illustrates how things can go terribly wrong in the music business even when they seem to be going spectacularly right. The group was signed and befriended by the Beatles, scored three Top 10 hits in the United States and somehow wound up broke and so discouraged that its two creative leaders committed suicide.
