The Northern Ireland peace process continues to rock along precariously. Last week came yet another test of David Trimble's leadership of the Ulster Unionist Party, the largest in the province. Ever since the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, UUP hard-liners have challenged Trimble as being too conciliatory on such issues as paramilitary-weapons decommissioning and reform of the provincial police force, the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
