Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) affects up to 35% of athletes and 90% of asthmatics (Kukafka et al., 1998). EIB is transient airway narrowing following strenuous exercise. Exercise can provoke increased airway resistance (e.g., EIB). However, regular physical activity and participation in sports by children and adolescents are critical for cardiopulmonary fitness. Exercise is considered an important component in the overall management of asthma and the strengthening of lung muscles (Orenstein, 1996).
