The Good Father
My two sisters and I read with interest Renata Adler's essay on the New York Times's critical treatment of her book Gone: The Last Days of the New Yorker and on the newspaper's call for her to support an allegation that our late father, Judge John J. Sirica, had "clear ties to organized crime" ["A Court of No Appeal," August]. In her attempt to answer this call, Adler told us much that we didn't know or couldn't have known about our father, in large part because she has fabricated a story line to buttress her still unsupported and, in fact, insupportable claim.
