While it's certainly not the hardest part of an HIV test, there's no denying that the waiting period between taking the test and getting the results can make the whole process more difficult than it has to be. Now a new test, which may be available in the United States as early as 2001, pending government approval, promises to reduce that waiting period from a week or longer to only 20 minutes.
