Nov. 6--Colorado Springs has been named a finalist in the international competition "Nations in Bloom," which recognizes environmental excellence and bills itself as the "Green Oscars."
Colorado Springs is one of seven U.S. cities selected to be among 35 communities that will vie for honors at the final judging Nov. 30-Dec. 4 in Washington, D.C. Colorado Springs will compete in the division for cities with a population of 300,000 to 1 million against Perm, Russia and Yokosuka City, Japan.
Nations in Bloom is a British nonprofit organization founded in 1996 by Alan Smith, director of the Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management in England.
