The Work of Dimitri Mendeleyev
You may not recognize the names of "Dimitri Mendeleyev" or his mother, "Maria Mendeleyeva." But whenever you enter a science classroom, you probably see a Mendeleyev achievement -- the Periodic Chart of the Elements.
Maria's Contributions
Dimitri was born in 1830 in the remote Russian region of Siberia. It was his extraordinary mother, Maria Mendeleyeva, who made it possible for this chemist to obtain his education. Dimitri was able to devise the Periodic Table of Elements only because of the heroic efforts Maria made in setting food upon her own family's table.
