Everyone will have back pain sometime in his or her lifetime. Whether it's acute, lasting six weeks or less, or chronic, it is all due to inflammation.
Inflammation is the process by which pain is perceived by the body. There are two types of inflammation, acute and chronic. The cells of acute inflammation are different from the cells of chronic inflammation.
Most commonly prescribed medications act on the cells of acute inflammation and have less effect on the cells of chronic inflammation. That might be why pain medications work better for acute pain.
