Aptagen, Inc. (Herndon, Va; 739) has developed a continuous process that uses genetically engineered bacteria to convert methane to protein that can be recovered for use as animal feed or a protein supplement. The protein has a high concentration -- almost five times the levels found in corn -- of the amino acids required by humans and livestock for proper nutrition, says the company.
