A Ramona rancher has found his niche with a business model worth emu-lating: Selling a natural emu-lsion for skin care known as emu oil.
Paul Pluss, founder of Jurassic Secret Emu Products, has been selling emu oil throughout the county. The oil is available as a skin emollient, with prices ranging from $8.95 for a one-ounce bottle to $125 for a 32-ounce bottle, he said.
Other emu oil products include hand soap, face cream, pain rub, shampoo and conditioner, Pluss said.
About six years ago, Pluss began raising emus -- large ostrich-like birds native to Australia. Originally, he had been interested in raising the birds solely for meat. Compared ...
