THIS time last year Michael Harrison wrote to me about the street memorials which were obvious in much of Birmingham. He recalled one such memorial in the Walford Road area of Sparkhill: 'at the time I would be about ten years old but I do remember that the wooden wall plaque was a small shelf with vases of flowers on show.'
