Orange County's hotel and motel industry should take a bow. It has just passed the 50 percent mark in conservation -- more than half of the hotels and motels are participating in a program to conserve Orange County's water and energy.
In October 1999, the Orange County Water District (OCWD), a team of other water agencies and Orange County hotels and motels started a Hotel and Motel Water Efficiency Program. To date, 56 percent of the hotels and motels in Orange County are participating. This equals 183 hotels or 21,714 rooms, and the number is growing.
