In an award ceremony held in Brussels on 8 November, Philippe Busquin, European Commissioner for Research, awarded the Rene Descartes Prize and the tidy sum of Euro 660,000 to three international research teams in appreciation of the scientific excellence of their work and international teamwork. The three prizes were awarded for:- top research in developing new methods for studying chemical reaction kinetics at very low temperatures; the (Chemistry Close to Absolute Zero) project was led by scientists from the Universities of Birmingham and Rennes;- research into the synthesis and application of a new family of polymeric self-oriented transistors for electronic circuits; ...
