It's 5 a.m., and Chuck Knapp already is three coffees deep into his workday. Adrenaline will take him the rest of way on Christian radio station KTIS-FM, through traffic updates and weather, up and over nine praise-and-thanks songs an hour, into chatter and prayer with his fellow early-man, the Rev. Jon Engen.
Serving as his own engineer, dishing up CDs by the Newsboys and Sandi Patty and Cheri Keaggy, the 53-year-old Knapp is one reason why KTIS (900 AM, 98.5 FM) has pushed its morning drive-time listenership to 20,000 at peak times, and has otherwise drawn attention to itself by raising $3.5 million in pledges faster than you can say "miracle."
