With the first surge of brass and the first voices singing the opening lines of Franz Josef Haydn's "The Creation," the Elgin Choral Union will begin its self-proclaimed "rebirth."
The group's 54th season - aptly themed, "A New Beginning ... With Tradition" - will be ushered in by a new music director and a chorus 125-members strong.
"There's new life in the choir," choral Executive Director Robert Durnbaugh said.
Last year's resignation of music director John Slawson and the exodus of more than 30 members brought about a quick reconstruction of the group.
