France's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the Charles de Gaulle, has cancelled plans to visit the U.S. naval base at Norfolk, Va., after the 40,000- ton ship on Nov. 10 suffered damage to one of its two propellers forcing the ship to return to its homeport of Toulon, France, for repairs that could delay its planned commissioning by year's end, according to officials.
"She lost one-third of a blade on the port propeller, but at this point we don't know why it failed after steaming for more than 50,000 nautical miles over the past year and a half," Capt. Philippe Alquier, France's naval attache to the United States, told Defense Daily ...
