Snowflakes fell as our sure-footed steeds snaked up a trail through pine woods and underbrush covered in white powder. To keep warm we wore dusters - long canvas riding coats - and snow boots instead of riding boots. Our wrangler stopped at the top of the hill, letting us pause to take in the white-blanketed vistas of Willow Creek Reservoir and the Continental Divide.
