It's not unusual for college basketball teams to reach in recruiting, but rarely does that mean reaching across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe. The University of Wisconsin men's team did just that Wednesday when it signed a member of the Austrian national team based on videotapes and the recommendation of a European coach.
The Badgers signed Andreas Helmigk, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward playing professional basketball in Austria, as the third member of their 2001 recruiting class.
