Tom Russo faced a far greater business challenge than he ever had. The former president of Ground Round--as well as Howard Johnson, Ponderosa, Hanson Industries and Miami Subs--had just completed a deal by which Boston Ventures took 80 percent control of Braintree, Mass.-based Ground Round, and Russo's management group received 20 percent.
