Each team's MVP recipients, near-winners and sore losers
IN ITS VARIOUS FORMS, THE MOST Valuable Player citation has been awarded 160 times to 125 different players on 25 different teams through 1999, That means there have been about 150 controversies and who knows how many punctured egos.
From 1911 to 1914, the MVP Award was known as the Chalmers Award.
No most valuable player honors were given out from 1915 through 1921.
Starting in 1922 through 1929, the MVP Award was known as the League Award--no National League awards were handed out in 1922 or 1.923 and no A.L. award in 1929.
No MVP Awards were in existence for the 1930 ...
