We're all familiar with the phenomenon of sudden celebrity when it happens to people. In the seemingly continuous rush of media sensations, all sorts of previously unknown and unremarkable people have found themselves in the international spotlight. Think "Survivor's" Richard Hatch.
But as all the chad-related flap (over flapping chads) in Florida reminds us, words can become sudden celebrities, too. Consider the once obscure now ubiquitous "chad."
