Abstract: The basal ganglia are a series of interconnected nuclei located deep within the cerebral hemispheres. These structures play an important role in movement. Complex feedback loops form direct and indirect pathways that balance excitatory and inhibitory activities through neurotransmitter activity.
Deep within the two cerebral hemispheres is a collection of interconnected nuclei, collectively referred to as the basal ganglia. The involvement of these nuclei in movement has long been recognized.
