Some observers believe Eden Prairie Center, built in the mostly undeveloped far southwestern corner of the Twin Cities area in 1976, was ahead of its time. About a quarter century ahead of its time, to be exact.
Truth is, over the years the mall never really caught on as a hot shopping venue akin to rivals Ridgedale and Southdale, or even the Mall of America.
"When [Eden Prairie Center] was built, the population out there was very thin," said Mike Scott, senior vice president-retail for United Properties, a Bloomington real estate brokerage. "It's much fatter now, and there's a lot of daytime traffic."
