Nov. 20--Published authors agree that having a plan for selling your book can be as important as the quality of the book, at least when it comes to opening those first crucial doors.
"It's tough selling an idea if it's your first time," said Charles Slack, a Richmond author whose first book, "Blue Fairways," was published last year. Henry Holt, a New York publishing house, took a chance on Slack's very personal tale of the people and places he encountered during a tour of public golf courses from Maine to Florida.
Slack, a former reporter at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, said his journalism experience may have lent some credibility to his efforts. ...
