DALLAS _ Growing up in St. Louis, I was a kid in love with the baseball Cardinals, the football Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues.
I provide this brief biographical sketch because of my assignment, to find out whether Stars wing Brett Hull is capable of scoring 50 goals this season, and I'm reminded of Hull's days in St. Louis when 50 goals seemed guaranteed.
He scored 86 goals in 1990-91. Only Wayne Gretzky has scored more in a single season.
But Hull's 36, not 26, now. He's playing in a system in which goal scoring isn't easy. His numbers almost steadily have decreased since 1990-91, dropping to a personal-worst 24 goals last season.
