Future churchgoers may forgo the passing plate on Sunday, opting instead to wire their contributions from the bank to church coffers.
Such electronic transfers of the tithe, or church donation, is reportedly increasing income to participating congregations, reports Lutheran Brotherhood, a fraternal financial service that has pioneered Simply Giving, the first high-tech collection plate for a U.S. denomination.
"People who give on a regular basis end up giving more," said Royce McEwen, vice president of the group.
