Article: More Anxiety Disorders Found In Primary Care.

The rate of anxiety disorders was four to seven times higher in elderly people treated for depression in primary care and psychiatric settings than that reported in community studies, reported Dr. Eric J. Lenze and his associates at the University of Pittsburgh.

"In particular, the frequency of panic disorder (9.3%) is almost two orders of magnitude greater than the 0.1%-0.3% prevalence previously reported in community elderly," the investigators reported (Am. J. Psychiatry 157[5]:722-28, 2000).
