After being counted out by many, Dale Earnhardt has regained some of the old magic.
ASK DALE EARNHARDT IF HE'S BACK, AND watch those steely, blue eyes squint and harden into a glacial glint "Back from where?" Earnhardt will snap. "Hell, I ain't been nowhere."
Or dare utter the "R" word: retirement. "Y'all [the media] started all that [bleep]," Earnhardt will reply. "I've never considered retirement. Ain't even thought about it." Then the ice starts to melt, and the eyes twinkle mischievously as he grins and adds: "Hell, I'm just startin' to reach my peak!"
