In the midst of all this making money, and going digital to make more money, it's good to know that a few souls are concerned about whether design and printing is readable, legible, and, indeed, where graphic design using type is taking us. The answer to the latter question is either "To hell in a handbasket" or "Onward to brave new multimedia frontiers," depending upon whom you ask. A new book from New York's Allworth Press, "Graphic Design & Reading: Explorations of an Uneasy Relationship," edited by Gunnar Swanson, contains a lively collection of essays ranging from the classical to the high-tech avant garde.
