With his searing tone, bone-rattling grooves, and beyond-the-blues melodic excursions, Sonny Landreth pushes the boundaries of slide guitar. On his new CD, Levee Town [Sugar Hill], Landreth blazes through a self-penned set with the intensity of a world-class athlete, blending slide magic and fretted phrases into a single, seamless technique.
Born in blues-rich Canton, Mississippi, and raised in southwest Louisiana (where he still resides), Landreth absorbed Cajun music and the sounds of the Bayou. As a budding guitarist, he was also taken with Chet Atkins and Robert Johnson.
