Speed sells.
U S West, which during the past three months has signed 30,000 customers for its superfast Digital Subscriber Line, or DSL, Internet access, today rolls out a less expensive service aimed at the casual Web surfer.
The new on-demand DSL package, MegaBit Select, costs $19.95 a month, compared with $29.95 for the always-on version.
Subscribers also will need an Internet service provider that supports DSL technology.
Unlike dial-up services, DSL allows customers to maintain a high-speed connection to the Internet while using the same line to make and receive telephone calls.
