BLACK CAT, WHITE CAT

Grade: B

A tipsy comedy about gypsy life

Rating: R

Running time: 123 minutes

Emir Kusturica's Underground, which dealt with turmoil in the Balkans, never had a Denver release, even though it won the Palme d'Or at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. Perhaps wishing to widen his audience - or maybe just to cheer himself up - Kusturica made Black Cat, White Cat, a topsy-turvy look at Gypsies living on the banks of the Danube River.
