People who like to blame every storm anywhere on El Nino are in for some bad news - a separate weather phenomenon in the Indian Ocean can cause storms and flooding almost as calamitous as its Pacific Ocean cousin.
``Our research indicates the Indian Ocean has its own El Nino-like phenomenon characterized by an east to west oscillation of warm waters that affect other parts of the world,'' Peter Webster, director of the University of Colorado's Program in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, said.
