Nov. 28--Donna Scheibe watches them come by the carload every year --families filled with holiday cheer, in search of a live Christmas tree to cut and cart back home.
And she wonders how many ever return to the Umatilla National Forest for another tree-cutting adventure in the Blue Mountains.
"Newcomers always want to try it. I can't tell you whether they come back again," said Scheibe, at the forest's Walla Walla Ranger District. "Some of them kind of get into predicaments."
As the Christmas season begins, forest managers warn that tree hunting is no walk in the park -- especially once the snow sets in.
