Nov. 29--Hewlett-Packard Co., continuing its fight for market share in the increasingly important computer server business, Tuesday introduced a new server designed and assembled at its Roseville facility.
The new HP product, known as the L3000, takes dead aim at market leader Sun Microsystems Inc., which HP has been trying to overtake for some time, as well as its other main competitor, IBM Corp. HP said the new server is faster than anything Sun or IBM offer in the same class.
"It's an opportunity to take market share," said Mark Hudson, worldwide marketing manager for HP's business systems and technology group.
