THE VERY latest technology is to be used to capture Census data for use for direct marketing and other marketing purposes in Ireland.

The Irish Central Statistics Office (CSO) has awarded the year-long project, worth [pound]4.5m (Ir[pound]5,400,000), to CACI.

It will be the first time the process will make use of 'intelligent' optical character recognition (OCR) technology to process the 2001 Irish Census.
