AURORA -- Despite a record year in homicides, the city's violent crime dropped more than 11 percent in 1998.
The number of homicides jumped 64 percent, to 28 in 1998 up from 17 in 1997. But rape fell more than 21 percent and assaults dropped nearly 13 percent.
``I don't know what we could do unless someone calls us in advance and tells us they're going to kill someone,'' said Mayor Paul Tauer.
Aurora Police Chief Verne Saint Vincent said that nine of the deaths last year occurred in two incidents: the Labor Day slaying of six people and a drug-related triple homicide less than a week later. And in ...
