A sweet red bean paste known as an traditionally fills the Japanese pastry manju, but the women gathered in the kitchen of the Denver Buddhist Temple were attempting something a little different.
Peanut butter isn't one of your classic Asian food products, but the kids like it, so why not?
``This is an experiment,'' said Ruth Suekama, as she plopped spoonfuls of Skippy's Chunky onto a tray, where it will be wrapped into a sweet batter and baked. ``These are very popular with the kids in Los Angeles.''
